IEEE 802.11 Standards Family

Introduction

IEEE 802.11 is a family of specifications for wireless networking technology. 802.11 was accepted by IEEE in 1997.

  • 802.11 was eventually extended into 802.11b.
  • 802.11a supports up to 54Mbps at 5GHz.
  • 802.11b allows for 11Mbps at 2.4GHz.
  • 802.11g is up to 54Mbps at 2.4GHz.
